Yesterday was the day of La Cruz in Granada, a holiday that year after year, It brings hundreds of people out into the streets to admire the altars dedicated to the Holy Cross that are placed in neighborhoods, squares and houses. All this accompanied with some beans, a must or chamomile brighten the day.
But I'm not here to talk to you about folklore… but the poster chosen to represent this autochthonous representation. I've been seeing it for a couple of weeks in some canopies and advertising spaces. At first I disowned him "what a bore” thought, "the same, again", but little by little he was conquering me with the variety of details that are observed, with the vivacious look of the female and with the personality that she gives off.
It is the work titled 'Grenadine', dated in 1972, by the painter Eduardo Cuesta. It shows us a woman like "Julio Romero de Torres", that salty Andalusian, How do you define Merimé? – and is shown in the movie Carmen – que “to be beautiful, must have have 3 black things: tabs, the eyebrows and the pelo; 3 white things: the table, teeth and hands; y 3 pink things: the lips, nails and nipples…” An ideal of beauty different from the current one, where between androgyny and tronistas there is hardly any room for naturalness and innate elegance – you know that from this blog always natural beauty is supported, different and real, #sow.
But I have detected something else, and goes in that search for the ideal of style, of personality, as I said above, of genuine beauty. Now we are surprised with the great photographs that The Sartorialist shows us daily, where distinguished girls (also guys, But is not the case) make us dream of the idea of innate elegance, gorgeous ideas and outfits we all dream of, and looks that stop the traffic.
But this has been done since time immemorial.… Rubens' Three Graces, Da Vinci's Mona Lisa, Botticelli's The Birth of Venus, o las Marilyns de Andy Warhol. In each era, some visionary has been in charge of portraying and making society see how genuine beauty or overflowing personality transcends and conquers locals and strangers.. Happy trend hunters and coolhuntings”
For that reason, it's okay that this poster is not innovative, original or different, Rather, it advocates an introspective look at our roots and seeking classical beauty in aspects that are sometimes forgotten under the idea of old-fashioned.. Surely if the grandfather of El Sartorialist had walked through a traditional cross from Granada a few years ago he would show us images like the one at the top of this post. And it is clear that they would conquer everyone as they have conquered me.
Your dissertation on the "trend cazodres" is very interesting and it turns out that here in our Spain we are pioneers since the portraits of Velazquez , where he showed us in all its splendor the fashion of the time , up poster inspiration, that Romero de Torres , that unfortunately you know four cats ( it's a saying )
We must reread our history more times , don't you think, we would be surprised.

i so agree with you… what is now shown as "the best of the best" is a historical reflection, there have always been details about the "lifestyle" in undervalued places, and it is important to define where we come from to see where we are going… I am not saying that the look of Las Meninas will return, pero sin duda, those confident looks remind me a lot of those of some egobloggers or protagonists of StreetStyle!
