The RAE defines culture, among other meanings, como el «set of ways of life and customs, knowledge and degree of artistic development, scientific, industrial, in a time, social group, etc».

Bien, reread the meaning and ask yourselves the following question: ¿In Spain, Really, there is culture as defined by the RAE? As each person is a world, everyone will have their own answer, and i have mine, what is NOT.

Cultura no muerde (1)

In this country, desde the power itself, they do not support culture in any of its aspects, whether artistic, scientific, industrial, etc… If not, we only have to see the cuts made by the Government in terms of Culture, I+D, Education, Health… Sin embargo, other games, like the one destined for the Church they don't touch it, ¿why? ¿It is more important for them to support an institution that keeps under its skirts an exorbitant amount of capital than its own citizens.?

This time I am going to focus on art as culture. I have studied Dramatic Art and it is a subject that touches me very closely. In this country, art has never been supported, or not all that it should. Por ejemplo, from the past 1 de septiembre de 2012, applies the 21% of VAT to directors or actors who are natural persons, or to the producers of films that can be exhibited in cinemas and to those responsible for theatrical and musical works. Not only they are affected by this rise, they also suffer this «curse» los karaokes, cafe-theaters, cafe-concerts, cafeteria or pubs that offer musical concerts, flamingo rooms, etc.

Cultura no muerde (2)Let's look at our neighbor, Francia, where it has been achieved that the VAT of the cine get off the 7% al 5%, and now let's compare with our country, un 21%. An abysmal difference that means, until now, the closure of one 141 cinemas. Alta Films closed in May, staying only with the exploitation of 4 Renoir cinemas throughout Spain, 3 of them in Madrid (Princess, Plaza of Spain and Retiro) y 1 a Barcelona (Floridablanca). ¿How long will these open rooms last?? A penalty, because these cinemas have always been a great circuit for the exhibition of films «little», those that are not supported by large producers and that they need all the necessary help to make themselves known. Una vez más, como siempre, those most in need suffer.
Not only the cinema suffers this almost fatal thrust. Surely it sounds familiar to many «The Riviera» o «Joy Slava», to give two examples. They are rooms where many concerts are staged and many of us go to enjoy our favorite artists.

Bien, they are not saved from 21% damned. Not music festivals. Everyone suffers from this increase, slowly, they will be charging them mercilessly.
From business associations responsible for promoting Culture, affirm that this rise in VAT means losses of 533 millones de euros, in addition to the loss of all jobs related to this sector. All this does nothing but threaten an area of great importance in the life of every person.: culture. It's getting harder and harder to enjoy art, find places and moments in which to escape from everything bad that may exist around us… Porque, sin duda, I have always thought that art beautifies the world.

I don't want to finish without playing a bit of a song by Pastora, llamada «Culture», which I think reflects very well all this debacle that hangs over art, culture in general:
«¿where is the culture?
¿where is the adventure?
Don't let the desire for mischief go away.

¿Where are all those things that without wrapping them were already precious?
¿Where is that color that one day made me fall in love? He has escaped with some checkbook»
